WHO: PHOTOGRAPHERS

Hello and Welcome!

During this exciting workshop, we will embark on a thrilling journey into a remote region of Alaska visiting a carefully selected location during Fat Bear Week. Bears will be at their fattest, looking for every last opportunity to eat before winter. We will stay in a lodge exclusively for our group only on Native land.

Throughout our trip, I'll be sharing valuable photography insights during evening presentations covering techniques, wildlife encounters, and editing tips. Prior to our departure, we'll connect in a group call to discuss essentials and get to know one another.

I'm thrilled about the prospect of having you alongside me on this extraordinary Alaskan adventure!

Dani

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN KODIAK

Our Bear Adventure begins.

Meet Dani and the rest of the group at Kodiak Airport. Shuttle as a group to guest house for the night.

After settling in enjoy a super casual welcome dinner at a local food truck and brewery.

 ● Arrival Dinner

Day 2: FLOAT PLANE TO KARLUK LAKE

After breakfast and coffee at the next door Food Truck we will catch a float plane to Karlock Lake, exclusive to our group for the next 3 days.

After settling in our beautiful lodge our small group will head out for the rest of the day looking for bears and wildlife.

As our group is small and the only one in the area, we will have the best possible bear viewing experience while minimizing the impact and disturbance to the bears.

Bears can get accustomed to humans quickly and making the groups small we can manage and limit the contact bears have with outside influences.

● Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: BEAR PHOTOGRAPHY

After breakfast we will visit multiple locations by boat with professional guides directly from the lodge.

Each bear viewing location offers our group a unique glimpse into the life of the bears and highlights the grandeur of Kodiak Island.

Kodiak Bears are the largest bears in the world. A male can stand over 10' when on all four legs.

After an adventurous day we will head back to our lodge around 6pm for dinner with the option to head out to capture bears.

● Breakfast, Packed Lunch and Dinner

Day 4: BEAR PHOTOGRAHY

After breakfast we will head out again led by expert guides with extensive training and experience.

We will be fully immersed in the bears' habitat, allowing us to observe, study, and develop a profound understanding and appreciation for these legendary creatures.

We will get close to the biggest brown bears on the planet, the Kodiak brown bear.

Return to the lodge around 6pm for dinner and evening activities

● Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: FLOAT PLANE TO KODIAK

After breakfast we will head out early for one last bear adventure. Return to the lodge and fly back to Kodiak around lunch time.

Enjoy the 40-50min scenic float-plane ride to island air base at Kodiak.

Transfer back to hotel where we will overnight for our final night and farewell dinner.

THE LODGE

Native Owned

Spacious and brightly illuminated, the rooms feature walk-in showers. Indulge in endless hot water, courtesy of on-demand water heaters, perfect for soothing end-of-day showers. Complementing our experience, they offer hotel-quality body towels, hand towels, and washcloths, along with amenities such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, and a hair dryer.

Reconnect with the richness of the earth.

The lodge offers an escape to a place that’s governed by the ancient rhythms of the seasons, rather than the clock and the calendar.

Bringing together conservation, research, and unrivalled bear viewing and sustainable fishing experiences in one of the most remote locations on the planet.

Everything they do is centered in their Alutiiq value that “this is the land that we belong to, not the land that belongs to us.”

Our group sizes is capped at eight individuals to guarantee that each guest enjoys the optimal Alaska experience.

Following a day filled with world class bear viewing and hiking, we will unwind and join the team for a home-cooked meal sourced locally in our lodge. Afterward, retire to one of our four private cabins, or swap bear stories while overlooking Karluk on the deck.

Owned by the Alutiiq people, who have called Kodiak Island home for over 7,000 years, The lodge on Karluk welcomes us to explore their land, ensuring unforgettable memories of our time immersed in the heart of Alaska's wilderness.
